Greetings. Our next meeting is to be a hybrid meeting on Wednesday, March 12. We will be meeting in person at the Mount Vernon Inn at 6 p.m. (social hour) and 6:40 p.m. (dinner). We need to give the Mount Vernon Inn the dinner count by Friday, March 7. Please let Richard Rankin know by completing and mailing in the reservation sheet (at right of webpage) or by responding to this email (brandywinecreek@aol.com). You can also pay at the door. Either way, please let us know if you would like meatloaf or salmon for your dinner entree.
For those who want to attend remotely, the Zoom meeting will start at bit after 7 p.m. If you can only attend by Zoom, I will email you a Zoom link to the meeting the day of the meeting. Feel free to share this email with a friend who or family member whom you think may be interested.
Our next speaker will be our own John Maass, who will be speaking on his recent book, From Trenton to Yorktown: Turning Points of the Revolutionary War. In this masterful narrative of America's fight for liberty, John R. Maass identifies the five decisive events that secured independence for the 13 hard-pressed but determined colonies. These include not only the obvious military victories such as Trenton, Princeton, and Yorktown but also the leadership and reforms that ensured Washington's forces were capable of enduring the harsh conditions of the winter of 1778. Similarly, King Louis XVI's decision to supply Continental troops during the Saratoga Campaign with desperately needed soldiers, arms, money, and fleets is also detailed as a key factor.
John R. Maass, Ph.D., is a historian at the National Museum of the United States Army, Fort Belvoir, Virginia. A former Army officer, he is also the author of The Battle of Guilford Courthouse: A Most Desperate Engagement; The Road to Yorktown: Jefferson, Lafayette and the British Invasion of Virginia; and The French & Indian War in North Carolina: The Spreading Flames of War.

The conference will be held for the second year at the lovely Virginia Crossing campus at Glen Allen, Virginia, outside of Richmond. Unfortunately, the hotel is now booked that weekend. I signed up for the conference back in December but like an idiot forgot to get the hotel reservation. I called the Virginia Crossing number (877-214-9174) and it said it had a sister hotel Comfort Suites just .7 miles away and could give me the conference discount, so I went for that.

New George Washington American Revolution Round Table of the District of Columbia Book Award!
Doug Bonforte, Gene Procknow and Gary Ecelbarger at the beginning of last year started a book award committee to select the best book on the American Revolution for 2024. The committee has selected a winner and a runner-up. The awards will be announced at the American Revolution Conference at Glen Allen on March 28-29. The information is highly confidential, but I can say the winners are worthy indeed. (FYI, no one associated with our ARRT is eligible to win. Sorry Glenn, etc.) After the announcement, the winners will be posted on our DC ARRT website, which is maintained by Doug Bonforte (the link to which is after my name below).
Thanks!
